Did journalists forget UK membership in the EU

The European Economic Community (EEC) became the European Union (EU) in 1993 with the entry into force of the Maastricht Treaty (Treaty on European Union) on November 1, 1993. The EEC was incorporated into the EU as the European Community (EC), which then became a principal component of the new, broader EU.

The UK formally left the EU on 31 January 2020, following on a public vote held in June 2016. However, the country benefited from a transition period to give time to negotiate a trade deal between the UK and the EU.

From this we can conclude that the Rotherham scandal occurred when the UK was still a member of the Union. So the big scandal is almost never talked about in the EU countries. Everyone seems to blame everything on the English politicians. Maybe there should be an investigation where the Brussels politicians are also held accountable? Maybe there is a ”Rotherham” scandal in other places in Europe too?
